The focus of the CES in Las Vegas this year is on 5G-compatible devices such as smartphones and car interfaces, showing that 5G has quickly transitioned from 2018’s trial phase to real commercial use.

In his Headline Finance column, Pico’s Chairman notes how 5G’s impact goes far beyond smart devices; it will also open more possibilities for audience experience-enhancing activities.

The 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang and the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia were practical opportunities for companies to show off prototype 5G tech like live VR and ultra-fast streaming video. By dramatically improving connectivity between event management and emergency personnel, 5G also offers a leap ahead in event safety.

With analysts predicting that 5G networks will be in wide use by 2020, event planners should closely watch developments: the next revolution in event technology is gathering strength.
